Hawai'i Concert Society
Aloha friends.
Welcome to the 2025-2026 season of fine music presented by the Hawai‘i Concert Society. Seven performances are scheduled, all of them at the U.H. Hilo Performing Arts Center and each beginning at 7:00 pm. The season features exceptional artists from around the world. It includes a few unusual and intriguing instruments and combinations that will be new to many of us. By ordering tickets now, you will guarantee that you and yours will be in attendance at your choice of events, and at substantial savings over concert night and ticket outlet prices.
The season opens in mid-September with a violin and accordion duo from Poland, Karolina & Iwo, performing both well-loved and little-known repertoire with bold, new, and delightfully original sounds. At the end of September we welcome the renowned Scottish guitarist, Paul Galbraith, who plays an 8-stringed instrument of his own design that sets him apart in the classical guitar world. The New Year begins with music written mostly in the 1700s and mainly by Haydn, for the string trio consisting of viola, cello, and the now little-known instrument, the baryton. The Valencia Baryton Project brings this ancient instrument and this major part of Haydn’s body of compositions back to life.
In February we are thrilled to present the Parker Quartet, resident string quartet at Harvard University, who will take us on a deep dive into some of Franz Schubert’s late and so very poignant music. We then welcome back three sets of musicians from previous seasons. The three women who make up the celebrated Eroica Trio are sure to electrify the concert stage and our audience with their performances of depth and precision. Two stunningly talented pianists, Soyeon Lee and Ran Dank, will be back in April for a concert of solo and four-hands music. And a perennial Hilo favorite, pianist Joyce Yang, together with Honolulu’s Spring Wind Quintet, will close the season with music for wind quintet, solo piano, and piano sextet.
Season tickets are great bargains – a 20% discount off box office prices. You may also custom-design your own mini-series of at least four concerts, at a 10% savings. You may also add extra tickets at these prices to your order. Or you may order tickets for fewer than three concerts at box office prices. Orders are accepted at any time. Our tickets make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc. Order now to be sure that you do not miss what will be a most memorable 2025-2026 season.
On behalf of the HCS board, yours sincerely,
Thomas R. Geballe, President
